Michael L. Bolivar
Legendary Saxophonist, Michael Bolivar has performed with many artists, both famous and aspiring, including his high school band (Evan E. Worthing), his college band (Prairie View A & M), the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Freddie Hubbard Lou Rawls, the O'Jays, Temptations, Billy Preston, Helen O'Connell, Aretha Franklin, and Esther Phillips. Performing with such a wide variety of musicians, he has enjoyed the benefits of a diverse repertoire, which is reflected in his performing and recording career. Michael's goals as a musician have never been to be a technician or an emotionalist. Very early in his musical career, he learned the value of improvisational development using melody, space, & time. He started playing with his neighborhood friend and fellow schoolmate Michael Carvin, legendary drummer and educator, Mr. Bolivar received an early opportunity to be rhythmically oriented in melodic and creative expression. These musical qualities have been vital in his desire to promote goodwill, express the oneness of being and entertaining, and discover his spiritual magic through musical technique.
Bolivar’s roster of releases includes an album of standards called You Go to My Head, a jazz covers album titled Joy Spring, and In the City a collection of his original compositions. Each recording is a testament to his love of all genres of music.
